A Gap in Time and Teeth
A missing moment from Torchwood
“We can’t continue this anymore…I’m gay.”
Gwen stares at Owen.
“What?” Gwen is shocked. If she had been having an affair with a gay man… well then she just didn’t know how to go on living with herself. How could she have cheated with Rhys with someone who was gay? Why did she have an affair in the first place? How could she have been so stupid?
“Oh come off it. It’s what you want to hear. You want something that will make this thing a whole lot easier.” Owen’s arms are crossed as he continues to stare at her.
“I don’t know what you’re on about.” Gwen busies herself with tidying up the leftover pizza. Ianto hasn’t been himself since Jack left; he’s been more into field work then housework. Consequently, the Hub is a lot more dirty.
“I know I said the relationship was over, but you can’t seem to be able to accept that Gwen.”
“It was never a relationship Owen. It was just…something, and it doesn’t matter now. I retconned Rhys. He doesn’t remember. I should just retcon myself and forget I ever slept with you!” Gwen feels that her glare should be enough to send Owen away. But he continues to stand there staring at her. Gwen is starting to feel uncomfortable, when suddenly, Owen kisses her.
His kisses haven’t changed, even though it’s been weeks since they last kissed. His tongue still licks her lips, before teasing his tongue between the gap in her front teeth. Gwen had never liked her teeth gap, until Owen kissed it. Rhys had never kissed her in such a way.
Owen pulls away first and continues to frown at her. Gwen is still trying to process that Owen kissed her, and she’s cheated on Rhys again.
“Look Gwen, we have to work with each other and I don’t want this to be unpleasant. But we don’t love each other, never have and never will and I know you want to be faithful to Rhys. Believe it or not, I do understand that. I was once engaged.”
“How can you expect us to just move on and not feel awkward every time we’re near each other? How can you expect me to not care?” Gwen has always cared about things. She hopes she will always continue to care.
“You just move on. You just do. One day we’ll forget this ever happened. You’ll forget this.”
So Gwen takes his words to heart. Every time they accidentally touch, or their eyes linger on each other for a bit too long, Gwen summons up her courage and moves on.
She still misses the tooth gap kisses though.
